92 Points

Thursday, October 2, 2014 - Black in color turning purple at the rim with a deep nose of ripe dark berries, vanilla and creme de cassis. The palate is dense, powerful and bold with a velvety texture. Opulent flavors of ripe dark cherry, blueberry, mocha, tobacco, black tea, kirsch, liqueur and toasted vanilla. The fruit is just so rich, jammy and intense, it may tend to overwhelm. However, from track record, Caymus wines age beautifully in controlled cellar conditions, and I suspect that once those fruit flavors mellow down after 5-to-6-years (better actually in 10) subtle nuances of earth, oak, and dried herb will balance this one out. Finishes long and lifted with high alcohol levels. Drink now with a 1-hr decant until 2027. 92+
