Friday, December 2, 2016 - While not the best example from Rioja, the wine was solid and quite enjoyable. First bottle from the producer.
As expected, the color was quite evolved showing a significant amber ring. Color instability residue on bottle.
The aroma was the tell-tale cedar infused sweet fruit that you expect from an aged Rioja. The wine could have a little more depth and complexity, but this is their basic Rioja and at 34 years, it is not going to improve. The fruit tannins were all dissolved with oak tannins still holding the wine together, clean but somewhat short finish, no reason to hold this wine any longer...
