88 Points

Sunday, October 4, 2015 - Mike G and Berto visit Cleveland (Italian wines)+ (Willoughby, Ohio): I have gone thru a bunch of these and this was my last bottle. Bought for under $20, this makes a great starter at tastings when the featured wines are red. My scores have ranged from 88 to 92, so there does seem to be some bottle variation (along with my palate). This bottle is sound, but the wine does seem to be getting to the end of the line or at least on its way down. Just got an offer for more at $16, but I will pass. There is still some fruit, mostly apple, on the nose but the oak has overtaken it. There a nice texture left on the palate, but the fruit is more genric at this point. It is more refreshing than interesting. That said, it worked nicely to set the tone. It is more than just a quaffer still and did show a bit better with food.
