Thursday, May 21, 2015 - Probably the 5th or so vintage of this wine that I've had. Although it's first where I've recorded a tasting note, my memory suggests that this year's version is less fruit-forward than past iterations. Initially upon opening, this wine smelled rather strongly of beef blood and iron shavings with fairly pronounced tannins -- enough so that a first half-glass aperitif without food was more of an intellectual exercise than a source of pleasure. The wine then opened up and broadened a bit and went well with dinner. On the second evening, although there was still a pronounced meaty element, it was counterbalanced to a degree by some dark berry notes, some floral notes and what I pegged as eucalyptus; plus the tannins had softened to a fair degree with balanced acidity. This wine is concentrated and medium-full bodied but by no means a fruit bomb of any kind, nor did I detect any RS or other perception of sweetness. I think it will continue to improve for another few years and will still drink well til at least the turn of the decade.

9/9/2015 2:31:00 PM - I wonder if the body changes from year to year as I just had the 2013 and call it light to medium bodied?
