Saturday, December 22, 2018 - Xmas party at Chateau Davyd. Aired in bottle for about an hour before drinking.
Appearance is clear, deep intensity, ruby colour. Legs.
Nose is clean, pronounced intensity, with aromas of black licorice, asphalt earth, glossy black cherries, blackberries, Baygon insecticide spray. Developed.
On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium+ alcohol (14.5%), resolved super fine high tannins, full body. Pronounced flavour intensity, with flavours of black cherries, blackberries, dark red cherries and boysenberries jam, black licorice, bits of sweet tarred earth. Medium+ finish.
Very good quality. Ex-blockbuster fruity wine that is now humming along more calmly as it approaches twilight years. Real enjoyable good stuff, though it lacks the complex layers of Torbreck's Descendant and RunRig bottlings.
Blend of Shiraz old vine fruit from Eden Valley and Barossa Valley. 18 months in French oak (20% new).
