Tuesday, November 11, 2014 - Another really stunning Sperrs from Gaja.
Had this on tonight in a winemakers diner hosted by the lovely Gaia Gaja, oldest daughter of Angelo Gaja.
Nose is full of cherries, complex & mature, with truffles, light tar, licorice, sous – bois, violets, lovely spices and a touch of fine stable.
Palate is balanced, with fine maturity, concentrated red fruit, cherries, integrated and fine grinned tannins, super long finish with fine acidity and superb balance & structure.
A great Barolo (with 6% Barbera = Langhe Nebbiolo), drinking at perfect peak right now.
Will probably out live me, so peak is perhaps not the right word for this, but I should perhaps rather say in a great drinking window.
Anyway, a truly fabulous wine.
