Wednesday, July 18, 2012 - Tasted with Dow Port 1985. Both ports were decanted about 60 minutes prior to tasting. Both ports exhibited lovely nose of black fruit and had generally attained a smooth integration of alcohol and tannin. However, the Cockburn was darker in hue, showed more dense fruit, carried a richer structure on the palate and ended with soft tannins on a longer finish. While both ports are drinking well now, the Cockburn has more stuffing. Rating: Dow 88, Cockburn 91.
