Saturday, August 26, 2023 - A strong showing for the 2005. Much more approachable than previous tastings. Full of mocha and chocolate flavors with a fresh, tart backing, edging into licorice and earthy notes on the finish. Well crafted, balanced, tannins fully submerged. Decanting helped, but this was rewarding right out of the bottle. This Monte Bello has a long life ahead of it, and while very good now, it's still a few years from mature complexity. Try again in 2028.
