Wednesday, December 10, 2014 - A very sweet nose on this cabernet: brown sugar in the forefront, with a bit of pepper but softened by vanilla. On the palate, cedar notes were there alongside more pepper, bitter chocolate with hints of crowberry and wild currants; overall, a moderate tannic grippiness. It finished a bit oaky and a little hot to my tastes, ending with more a sensation of alcohol than any lingering secondary notes.

The hot 2012 vintage in Napa has produced what is perhaps an atypically riper, extracted style that may put some off. Don't get me wrong, though, this is still a well-made wine, just one meant to be drunk in the next couple years.

1/23/2015 10:03:00 PM - I would agree almost completely with this analysis. Perhaps I would be a little kinder on the finish, as although I did indeed have an 'alcohol sense' I also picked up some spicy notes. Not as lush as previous releases.
