Sunday, November 19, 2017 - Our history with Artemis dates to 2013, enjoying it with friends at their Goodyear, Arizona condo. Big food, big sky and sun, desert air and a big earthy wine.

On the nose it hits with blackberry, leather and black licorice. And yes, it hits! It has a grittiness to it, smoky & peppery. We won't crack this for a simple movie night as a drink-alone with grapes, sausages and cheeses. This wine begs- needs an offset or balance to it; a NY Strip sounds about perfect. Maybe Texas brisket or even Cajun steak bites... It's not a wine that fades into the background as a luscious treat with great stories shared by loved ones. It wants to be part of the conversation. It's like Pepe Le Pew, "DO NOT IGNORE ME, MY SWEET!"

None of this is bad, nor, particularly good... It just is. A flavorful soft-punch to the mouth.

Artemis needs an hour or so open... It seems to lack the refined silk of Duckhorn Migration or the cashmere suppleness of Mollydooker's Boxer (yeah we get it- different grapes but both those are far less pricey). We like it, but we only buy it when we see it for $44 or less. Anything more than that, and there are other choices for us.

As far as our tasting notes to-date go, this is a top steak wine.

Grill up a rib eye, crack an Artemis, and if you enjoy cigars too, it'll be a night for a Macanudo dipped in Johnnie Gold...

It's why we work so hard.
