Friday, November 11, 2022 - We had a bottle to recork/wax... the seal was damaged and it looked like a a hole too. Upon taking the capsule off, the cork was found in the wine! So the bottle was opened for interest and inspection:
Decanted 10/11/2022
Tawny, cola-like appearance. Mellow nose of old wood, sense of softness, notes of brown sugar, dried old kirsch, raisin/tobacco, cola, a sandiness… and the spirit very easy-going.
Full and sweet attack, there was some pocketed spice and fire, a flash of acidity and tang. Overall mellow, a honeyed sweetness throughout with some (not liquorice...)cassia bark? Resolved tannins but a sense of powerful structure, this was long, rounded, juicy and sweet. Delicious and a surprise considering the 'closure'.
