Sunday, March 27, 2016 - A savory, deliciously fresh red blend of Rhône varieties dominated by Syrah with some Mourvèdre, Cinsaut, Grenache, and Carignan thrown in as well. The full palate opens with mingled red and black cherries, balanced off by powerful acidity. Flavors and aromas mirror each other and evolve into notes of scrubland herbs and musk. Funky-yet-accessible, this is excellent with grilled lamb, gamey roast pork, and charred broccoli rabe. Mullineux is a family of quality-conscious growers. The wine was vinified by individual parcel; grapes were sourced from a range of soils and terroirs, including Mourvèdre from iron-rich slopes, Syrah and Cinsaut grown on shale and schist, and bush-trained Carignan and Grenache from decomposed granite soils.
