Saturday, February 16, 2013 - Still alive but fading fast. First impressions are of smoky cherries and cola spices, with cherry compote anise and some green weediness that fades quickly. A few moments of air in the glass, and the fruit begins to disappear, leaving a whisper of tart cherry and berry notes. On the palate, the fruit has blended into gentle earthiness, with hints of leathery dried fruit that are struggling to reach out. Elegant, but just over the hill. Dugat's vineyards are just above the village of Gevrey - this bottle was purchased in Beaune in 2003. If only I had drank it a couple of years ago...
