Friday, July 17, 2020 - Part of a Super Tuscan night consumed along side a ‘00 Solaia and ‘01 Sassicaia. Considering this was the youngest wine, it actually drank the most mature. Very mellow and approachable right out of the gate. Definitely had some cooked fruits in here with silky smooth tannins. Wasn’t the most complex wine of the night but opened up a Serre Nuove alongside it for comparison and the Ornellaia still blew it out of the water (just to maintain the context of how nice the wines were that night). Ready to drink... don’t know if it really gets better with age from here. Maybe it was storage but ‘03 was not as much of an aging year.

7/28/2020 9:28:00 AM - Nice note. You put this up against some pretty stiff competition, and to be fair '03 was not the greatest of vintages (over-ripe due to hot, dry growing season). And you are right about it not being one for the ages.

7/28/2020 9:55:00 AM - Thanks for your comments and for validating my take on the wine! We are only starting our journey into the well aged Super Tuscans (trying time figure out what I want to collect for the future). Would be nice to try a horizontal between the 3 houses in the same vintage... still all 3 were some of the best wines I have had!
