Saturday, May 15, 2021 - This one was a bit odd getting going. At first, there was a lot of cigar ash, smole, and overripe figs on the nose and entry. An hour later, this wine improved significantly. The last time I sat down with this bottle was almost 3 years ago, and seemed to think that this one had a very significant "purple" fruit and black fruit character up front but didn't seem to be as balanced. Definitely is not this more youthful profile now (at all). But, the balance and the structure of this wine is definitely there vs November 2018. Dark plums, figs, black licorice, black pepper on the finish. Herbal, a little coconut and sandalwood. Softening tannin on the finish. Finish is still more delicate as I noted in 2018 but there seems to be quite a bit more there. I gave this a 91 back then and I will say that for sure the 91 still stands. Last one of these for me.
