Wednesday, April 10, 2019 - After a Brûlée’s Grivot 2014. Firstly kudos to Rousseau for using a longer cork - frankly Grivots corks are ridiculously short alas half bottle. Same cork maker. Shame on Grivot. Back to the wine: Rousseaus CSJ14 is gorgeous. A sense of place with the most refined Gevrey aromas wafting from the glass indicating a step up over the Grivot in intensity already. Not quite as filigree as the Brûlée’s but infinitely more potent without sacrificing balance and filigranity. The palate reveals a deep core centre of sour cherries, Asian plum, Assam tea, gravel with a kiss of gentle well integrated oak at this point that shall see this mellow and age in style. First rate really and a vindication of a distinctly mediocre non descript Clos Ruchottes 14 I had a year back. I have two bottle of this left and the next will be in ten and the last in twenty years. Could become a truly special wine.

9/24/2020 5:27:00 AM - Hello - that will make for a lovely birthday bottle for sure! I would not decant the wine. Generally speaking I would never decant young red burgundies without trying. I would pop the cork and see how it shows in the glass (using a wide glass ideally Zalto Burgundy). Then you might decide to decant and follow the wine. I do not know how many bottles you have, probably stating the obvious is that this wine although terrific now should be even better in 10-15 years. Let me know how you get on and enjoy the bottle and happy birthday to your wife.

9/24/2020 6:34:00 AM - Many thanks for this! I'm lucky enough to have a handful of bottles left so I can open one every 5-10 years or so :)
Will proceed exactly as you recommended...
