Wednesday, January 2, 2013 - I bought this wine solely off Gazonator's review below, and, skeptically, I thought it was 50/50 to be either better than average or too old. Well, this wine delivered. Decanted for a small amount of sediment, the wine pours a mature red color and is dark crimson with red edges in the glass. The nose is immediately expressive with white pepper, smoked meat, vanilla bean, red and black cherry, blackberry, and sweet bubble gum. Strong spearmint and tar/asphalt notes develop with time in the glass. The palate is extremely well integrated but still has enough acidity, with deep black cherry, tangy pomegranate, red licorice, and a range of spices. The mouthfeel is smooth and seamlessly transitions to a ripe finish. This does not need time in the decanter--decant for sediment only and drink immediately--but it could easily last a few more years.
