Saturday, September 5, 2015 - 19th anniversary at BHSB (Blue Hill at Stone Barns, Pocantico Hills, NY): In the glass, dark, clear orange. On the nose, a riot of crushed ripe fruits and dried fruits. On the palate, creamy opulence, with abundant mango, papaya, honey, marzipan, bananas, apples, lychees, and background notes of baking spices. The botrytized notes and acidity you might expect from d'Yquem were largely absent here; the wine came across more like a top-flight eiswein than the king of Sauternes. But, paired with a lovely cheddar and huckleberries, disappointment wouldn't be the right word.
