Friday, June 15, 2018 - Tasted at the winery. Massive nose with extremely aromatic blackfruit notes along with lots of spices. Medium bodied and all blackfruit upfront (black cherry and black berry) and more depth and concentration through the middle than the 2016. Spice notes, especially pepper towards the back, mixed with leather qualities. Lots of tannins and acidity on the back give this wine a structured feel, but at the same time these notes are well balanced by the upfront and mid-body fruit. The result being the wine comes off showing extremely good integration, but retaining more than enough structural elements to suggest additional future improvement is possible. This was the most concentrated and most distinctly blackfruit expression of Cabernet Franc I have tried from this vineyard site. Showing well now, but should be even better in early 2019.
