Blind, I would definitely call it a pinot. Everything from the color to the fruit profile to the high-toned floral character to the overall lightness and sweetness of the bouquet come off more like pinot than nebbiolo to me. More of the same on the palate. It’s very acidic, and the sharpness of the finish maybe suggests something other than pinot (though not nebbiolo to me), but otherwise it’s a dead ringer for a modest but well made cool-site pinot, with an explosion of juicy, tart red berry fruit and sweet floral tastes, with medium alcohol and light to medium body, and understated tannin. I would be absolutely shocked to learn that it wasn’t pinot if I tasted it blind.

It’s not bad, though light and simple, but it’s certainly not a strong vintage for this wine, which almost always has more heft, depth, and varietal expressiveness. So in that respect it’s disappointing.
