Sunday, May 11, 2008 - This wine is a toddler, but I knew that going in. I have a case on hand, so I wanted to check in on it's development. Opened about 4 hours prior to consumption; no decanting, just stuck the cork back in the bottle. A broodingly dark purple, turning towards red at the edge. With some coaxing, impressive aromas of ripe dark fruits (cassis), flower (lilly), and brush emerge; still quite primary at this point. Very good structure; good acidity. There are some significant tannins present, but they are sweet. A pleasing finish; went very well with the grilled foods. We had this with the '94 Pontet-Canet, and while it is drinking better at present, I felt the 2000 was the superior wine. Probbly will be ready for prime-time drinking in 2015!
