2001 Château Cos d'Estournel

Saturday, February 8, 2014 - Only one thing to say about this: 2001 is an underrated vintage. This has an intoxicating nose, but is very dis-integrated - not sure if that is a word, but it has a very thin start, a meaty middle and long lingering finish. Overall, it's a solid wine but it lacks cohesion and harmony. Initially you get hit with watery glycerin, followed by ripe plums and tart raisins, and finishing with a bitey punch of beef blood. It really is three wines in one - hence the "dis-integration".
