2001 Château Cos d'Estournel

Tuesday, November 7, 2017 - Served non-blind as a PnP, this was one of about a dozen bottles on the table, though it stood out for two reasons: balance, structure. While many/most of the others on the table seemed to emphasize flavors/fruit, this wine, as with all nice clarets, shouted place and acidity as much as fruit/flavor, and in that sense, it was one of my favorites on the night. Started to open up and get going by the 90 minute mark, this probably would have shown even better with ~ 2 hours of air in decanter prior to service. That said, it's an impressive wine from a not so impressive vintage. Should go another decade, at least, with proper cellaring. Easily recommended
