Saturday, September 19, 2020 - Good colour - not dense and with some signs of age. The nose showed fragrance, fruit (strawberries, hints of plum and sweet cape gooseberry) and the light palate developed strawberry and some plum (?) with the expected, but restrained, sour cherry flavours. The strawberry persisted over an hour or more for me but was gradually overtaken by raspberries and redcurrant. After food and 4-5 hours later, darker cherries emerged. A fascinating development with time after opening. Hugh Johnson describes this Piedmont vintage as 'over-rated with unfailingly green, gritty tannins' but I didn't get this and really enjoyed the wine. It had plenty of acidity and soft tannin to go with food but it softened and 'sweetened' with time making it enjoyable on its own with a few nibbles. I have raised my initial score a point as a result of its attractive development over 3+ hours.
Bottled as 'Waitrose in partnership with Terredavino' for UK.
