  • For the price this is a pretty amazing bottle of Barolo

  • Good colour - not dense and with some signs of age. The nose showed fragrance, fruit (strawberries, hints of plum and sweet cape gooseberry) and the light palate developed strawberry and some plum (?) with the expected, but restrained, sour cherry flavours. The strawberry persisted over an hour or more for me but was gradually overtaken by raspberries and redcurrant. After food and 4-5 hours later, darker cherries emerged. A fascinating development with time after opening. Hugh Johnson describes this Piedmont vintage as 'over-rated with unfailingly green, gritty tannins' but I didn't get this and really enjoyed the wine. It had plenty of acidity and soft tannin to go with food but it softened and 'sweetened' with time making it enjoyable on its own with a few nibbles. I have raised my initial score a point as a result of its attractive development over 3+ hours.
Bottled as 'Waitrose in partnership with Terredavino' for UK.

  • Russk. The wine improved over time going from 90 - points on a pop and pour, to 91 points 2 Days Later. This time showing Savory and juicy notes. Becomes delicate and smooth over time. Probably best to give this a long decant.

  • Russk. I have a complicated relationship with this wine.

The first time I tried it I thought it was disjointed. 90pts.

The second time I tried it, a month later, blind, I thought it was a very sound cooler climate Piedmont. Nice low alcohol 13.5%. 91pt. WSW low alcohol tasting.

The third time I tried it, a week later, I found it a very pleasant light-bodied nebbiolo. Good aromatics. Good food wine. 91 - points.
