Started with a funky nose but, after half an hour in the decanter, began to blow off and open up. In the meantime we had been sampling a glass of Ch. Haut Brion ‘95, so were not twiddling our thumbs.
A beautifully crafted claret with wonderful secondary tones on the nose but without having lost that refined primary fruit and graphite Palmer touch. Whilst it continued to improve, it didn’t completely bowl me over and I wouldn’t cellar for more than another decade, perhaps less.
