Tuesday, May 17, 2011 - Pichon Dinner - Lalande vs. Baron (Palena - Washington, DC): Really nice to drink this alongside the fantastic 1996 Lalande. While unmistakingly cut from the same cloth, you can really sense the variances in the vintage here. Compared to the 1996, this was a bit more mysterious and dark. The lovely floral components that I closely allign with Lalande's feminine character were there, but they were situated around dark black fruit, charcoal, smokey minerals and some spices. In general, I think '95 Bordeaux is in need of more time compared to the more plush '96 vintage. Thought this showed a lot of character, but will soften up a bit with some more bottle time. Very nice bottle of wine.
