Sunday, January 27, 2013 - Popped and pored a third of a glass. Very light on the nose and pretty tart, tight and tannic straight off. Let the bottle stand for a few hours, closed up the bottle and waited 24h. Next day it had evolved, classic Bordeaux nose with black currents, cherries and a touch of earth and gravel, not very intense but quite pleasing. Good balance in the mouth, again not particularly intense and still somewhat austere, but with a very long warm finish. I am positively surprised. The 1998s of the Left Bank have not been crowd-pleasers and for years it seemed likely that the fruit may run out before they reached maturity. Now it has come together reasonably well, and one could not have hoped for more I think.
