Tuesday, December 30, 2008 - What a really nice bottle of wine. Garnet in color. Cassis and sweet tobacco on the nose. Found this at the store and brought it home and popped and poured. Gave nice sweet fruit and cedar early, then closed down a bit; this was much more open on day 3 when I had the leftovers. Just really enjoyable, smooth, traditional St. Julien, that has developed some nice secondary characteristics. Not as powerful or aromatic as the 03 Lagrange I had recently, but this is better balanced, more ready to drink right now. Lucky I found this at retail; not sure I'd pay $40 again but it was worth it for the learning and enjoyment this time around.
