About my blog: The Amateur Wino (www.amateurwino.com) is a wine blog / video series aimed at the average consumer who likes wine and wants to learn more about it in an easy and fun way. I try to mix it up with content for both the casual wine drinker and the more serious winegeek.
About my notes: I tend to write a few categories of notes. One category is brief notes, usually taken at retailer or trade tastings where you taste just a small sample. At these tastings, I try to capture a quick overview of the wine. Please view these notes as snapshots only.
For wines where I have a full bottle or at least a glass (hopefully with a meal), I try to write longer notes that follow the evolution of the wine. If I open a bottle at home, I will often follow its progression over 3-5 days as the wine opens up, and I will try to mention wine pairings when something is worth noting.
For more information, fuller reports, interviews with winemakers, etc. please check out my blog site. Thanks for reading! Cheers,
Alan

Really good stuff. Juicy, zingy pinot with a lightness that is getting harder to find in US pinot noir. Pretty berry aromas and flavors with engaging florals too. An expression of pinot that is distinct from other regions and one that I want to enjoy and follow from time to time. Reminds me of my first eye opening experience with Ravines pinot years ago.

Showing relatively balanced and pretty, but still recognizably New World fruit here; good varietal character and a wine pro friend correctly called it as syrah when blinded.

This wine is settling into a nice place where the fruit has softened a bit from crunchiness to restrained generosity without going over the top and the tannin gives the wine enough dark notes to supply some bottom. Ready to drink but early in its prime.
