Sunday, March 28, 2021 - Domaine La Millière's 2015 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Vieilles Vignes is a deep garnet blend of 60% Grenache, 10% Syrah, 10% Mourvèdre, 10% Counoise and 10% Cinsault. From a well-cellared bottle that was decanted off of its sediment and Vinturi-decanted (in sequence), it opens after the first 90 minutes to reveal an attractive package of dark bramble fruits, black olive tapenade, Provençal herbs, grilled meat and cinnamon. Medium-to-full-bodied, fresh, softly oaked and with well-integrated alcohol (listed as 14.5%), it stays dense on the mid-palate. At this point the tannins are very supple, which accounts for the silky texture on the lengthy back end. This six-year "snapshot" suggests that the wine is evolving gracefully. Drink now-2025.
