Sunday, November 19, 2006 - A recent posting re CA Pinot Producers mostly elicited praise for producers that didn't even make wine in '01 (hell, one lauded producer's first vintage is still in barrels). Not much mention of Gary Farrell, among others, so I decided to let his wine do the talking tonight.

Opened an hour before dinner but not decanted. Bright--mostly clear--light cherry red. Exuberant nose right from the start. Red fruits with a touch of spice that carried through on the tongue: cranberry, strawberry and tart cherry. Good balance, food seeking acids and no heat. (13.8%). Silky and elegant (opines Dawn) and a medium finish (which does turn just a bit vegetal at the end) for this youthful 5 year-old. I hope the current darlings show as well in 2010.
