  • I forgot I had this. Bought this at release. This was drunk on a wild Thanksgiving and no notes or bullets were taken. Bottle # 37175

  • Definite bricking on the edges, but still surprisingly alive.

Aromatics: A pretty mix of brown sugar, cinnamon, tart cherries/cranberry, brown spices and clove/floral note.

Flavors: Showing some tired fruit flavors and a bit more simple than the nose led on. Sandlewood, ripe cherries and brown spices seem to be the main players.

Overall: A good pinot that has held up surprisingly well. Has some silkiness and pretty aromatics but the simplicity on the palate holds it back for me. Think it may have been better a year or two ago.

  • Very dark still with masses of dark fruit. A little harsh, are the tannins too firm. I am a little under the weather, so I will reserve judgement. Probably a high 80s score.

  • Rich and full-bodied, this was oozing cinnamon from the nose to the palate. Not particularly complex but utterly delicious. Won't get any better so drink up.

  • A recent posting re CA Pinot Producers mostly elicited praise for producers that didn't even make wine in '01 (hell, one lauded producer's first vintage is still in barrels). Not much mention of Gary Farrell, among others, so I decided to let his wine do the talking tonight.

Opened an hour before dinner but not decanted. Bright--mostly clear--light cherry red. Exuberant nose right from the start. Red fruits with a touch of spice that carried through on the tongue: cranberry, strawberry and tart cherry. Good balance, food seeking acids and no heat. (13.8%). Silky and elegant (opines Dawn) and a medium finish (which does turn just a bit vegetal at the end) for this youthful 5 year-old. I hope the current darlings show as well in 2010.
