Friday, February 9, 2024 - Friday Night at Dave's Place: This pours dark garnet in the glass. The nose is massively expressive and complex showing tobacco leaf, massive crushed gravel, charcoal, charred green bell pepper, blackberries, plant stem, cigar smoke, pencil shavings, and dried black currants. The palate enters on black currant and pencil lead with tannin that is is medium minus and acid is medium. The finish reveals the lean origins of the vintage turning a tad green and metallic which is what holds this back most. Just a lovely wine that recalls a Loire Cab Franc profile on the nose. Not for everyone but I found this quite enjoyable, particularly on the nose.
