Wednesday, January 24, 2018 - Tasted blind. Medium ruby-garnet with some brown hues on the rim. The nose is developed, with aromas of red cherry, dried herbs, pencil shavings and a fair amount of what seems like French oak (but is actually American oak of Heredia's own cooperage production). The palate is dry, with medium (+) acidity and tannins and medium alcohol (13%). The body, flavor intensity and length are all medium (+), indicative of Old World balance and a moderate climate. I totally underestimated the age, at 5-10 years old. Also, could not decide between Sangiovese and Tempranillo and settled on the former because I could not detect any American oak and the acidity seemed high enough. Actually, a blend of Tempranillo (75%), Garnacha (15%), Graciano and Mazuelo (10%). Drink now, or over the next several years, but it is not likely to improve with further aging.
