2015 Peter Michael Les Pavots

Saturday, March 9, 2024 - Dark ruby in the glass. Interesting nose with mushrooms, dried fruit, cherries. Medium acidity, lots of cherries and some bramble, black currants. Medium tannins already quite resolved, with some spice, dark chocolate, and slight bitterness reminiscent of unripe Olives; and a moderately oaky ending.
This is a very nice wine - elegant, sinuous, fruit-forward and bold but in check. Mostly primary still, and as this was my first Peter Michael I am not sure how this will evolve; it seems a bit muted, although after 2 hours in the decanted it did start opening up.
Very enjoyable by itself, I had it with beef tenderloin and it was a great match. 92 today, 94-95 potential. Will wait 2-3 years to open my second bottle.
