Monday, June 18, 2018 - Tour of Palace Coburg wines & dinner @ Silvio Nickol; 6/18/2018-6/19/2018 (Palace Coburg in Vienna): I was prewarned that the reds from Austria are perhaps not quite as well respected as the whites. This is a red from a producer who is trying to change all of that, but still sorting things like appropriate oak treatment. And working with a grape that's a bit off the beaten track and where I haven't seen people draw out complexity. So it's bright and fine and even strikes me as a wine that understands a good steak dinner, but didn't stand out.
