Sunday, April 23, 2017 - WSET Diploma - South America (and a Tignanello!) (SF): Clear, medium lemon color.
Pronounced aromatics of lees (cheese rind), slight struck match reduction, thiols (slight tropical fruit), peach, malo? (slight creaminess/butter).
Dry, medium plus body, medium plus alcohol - feels 13.5% (actually 12.5%), strong medium plus acid (~7g/L TA) - strong and malo-influenced. Medium plus finish - not evolving.
Very slight cinnamon/vanilla oak on the finish - modest use of new oak.
It's a new world Chardonnay but with very minimal oak and not as intense fruit as California.
Very good example for the price ($18). Just a bit rich and sluggish on the midpalate.
