Wednesday, December 30, 2020 - Had it about 3 weeks ago. Don't remember everything. It was a lovely soft sensuous wine. But a little too soft for me. This is only the second bottle of Cheval that I have had, the other was a 1982 a number of years ago. That didn't blow me away either. I think the Wine is way overpriced. I am A bigger type of wine guy. Cabernets. This was up against a 2007 Opus and 2010 Cos d'Estournel. To me the Cos at $250 a bottle better wine much better value. The Opus was a year or two past its prime. Remember Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

12/30/2020 10:23:00 AM - Nice taste off you put together! Cheval is a unique animal for sure. I also prefer a bigger wine over the more elegant however when Cheval is in its sweet spot for me, it’s within 8-20 years of age as it fleshes out and integrates to provide a lot more complexity breadth and depth that doesn’t typically show early. 2016 being a bit less forthcoming than say 2015, maybe that was the case? I haven’t tasted 2016 Cheval yet so this is more of a general response.
I had the 2014 two years ago (less of a vintage than 2016) which would put my tasting at a similar period as yours and had a similar experience although maybe a touch more tannic.
Hopefully you will get to taste again in the not too distant future 2000, 2005, 2009, 2010 and with a bit more age 2015, 2016, 2018 and 2019 but not too much where the fruit dips too much for our palates. Not sure if that helps at all.
