Saturday, August 8, 2020 - From 37,5cl, optically perfect cork, but something doesn't smell right from the off. This looks the part, with a beautiful orange penumbra, but WTF, 30 minutes in the decanter and the TCA really blooms. So, dear Château Lynch-Bages, that's 36 EUR (Berry Bros, 2005) down the drain. Good thing it wasn't a 75cl, or even a magnum, let alone one bought at current auction, let alone retail prices, let alone the absurd price you now set en primeur for current vintages, presumably bottled with the same old "traditional" corks used for the 1996 vintage. You think: "out of sight, out of mind". I think: "Two of these bummers from a case of 24 splits (see my TN of 01.10.2008) are definitely two too many, let's hope my remaining 9 turn out to be intact". A dispassionate observer might think: "It's incredible that this TCA/cork thing still seems to be acceptable".
