90 Points

Saturday, July 18, 2020 - Red fruits, moss, subtle florals, and earth on the nose.
Mid- plus weighted and sinewy for pinot to start. It's structured and deep with classical lines bordering on stern, but I like it. Sappy, with latent power that has excellent balance. Some forest berry notes, red licorice. Savory ferrous notes. A stony, tilled earth like firmness on the back end. Focused and precise. Lingering savory stoniness. This is no charmer, but is it beautiful classically proportioned wine, that I wished more wine emulated. Firm and chiseled for Volnay. This still has time to develop into more, but I won't likely find out, as it was my last bottle. Excellent acidity and balanced structure. Very long for a village wine. The last glass was the best glass. Of note, this took several hours to open up fully, so I suspect based on the combination of producer and vintage, that reports of this wine's demise are inaccurate and that it was just tight. 90
