Saturday, February 4, 2023 - La Festa del Barolo 2023: The '13 Mondoca was very impressive in my opinion. The nose was gorgeous and wide open, while the palate showed intense structure and tannin in need of a lot of time in the cellar to come together. This, along with the 2016 Brunate served alongside it, shows that I clearly need to taste more from Oddero.

On the nose, I found a textbook bouquet of sweet red berry fruit, fresh red roses, mint, and minerality, showing great freshness and purity. On the palate, the wine was much more imposing, with classic medium to high acidity and lots of structure. The tannins are of high quality, but distract from the fruit at this stage. On the palate, I found the same red berry and rose flavor profile, along with some raw meat, spices, and menthol. It is a concentrated, powerful wine in need of time, but the beauty of the flavor profile can already be appreciated especially on the nose.
