Wednesday, February 7, 2024 - Impromptu afternoon at ESBK. Pop and poured. Tasted blind. Drank in Grassl Cru.
Appearance is clear, deep intensity, purplish ruby colour. Legs.
Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of dark red plum, red cherries, polished black cherries, dark hummus earth and Tuscan dust, black tar, dark toast oak. Developing.
On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium+ alcohol (13.5%), grippy high tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of dark red plum, sour cherries, polished black cherriers, dark tarry earth, dark minerals, toasty oak. Long finish.
Very good quality. I was guessing a somewhat modern 2016 Brunello. Turns out to be this 100% Tuscan Sangiovese IGT. Needs more time for the oak and tannin to integrate.
