Impromptu afternoon at ESBK. Pop and poured. Tasted blind. Drank in Grassl Cru. Appearance is clear, deep intensity, purplish ruby colour. Legs. Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of dark red plum, red cherries, polished black cherries, dark hummus earth and Tuscan dust, black tar, dark toast oak. Developing. On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium+ alcohol (13.5%), grippy high tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of dark red plum, sour cherries, polished black cherriers, dark tarry earth, dark minerals, toasty oak. Long finish. Very good quality. I was guessing a somewhat modern 2016 Brunello. Turns out to be this 100% Tuscan Sangiovese IGT. Needs more time for the oak and tannin to integrate.

Nose really nice from the decanter. Acidic but carries it well. Sour cherry palate. Still has lots of life left but seemed fine with a bit of a decant.

Bought this bottle at the winery, great fruit, smooth tannins, medium acid, dark color, 13.5% abv, great balance, drank easily with veal scallopine, spinach fettuccine, mushrooms and eggplant parm, a refined Sangiovese wine that works on all levels, last bottle so onto another vintage.

Vinetasters: Sangiovese (Park Ridge, IL): Served double blind. Way too grape-juice like for now. Too sweet and simplistic; drinks a bit like an unfinished barrel sample. High alcohol and lacking in structure. Maybe interesting with more time in the bottle, but honestly based on this I don't care enough to find out.

This bottle illustrates what I like most about Chianti - this is clearly a young wine that will get better (and IMO, much better) with additional time in the bottle, and yet even as a youngster in an awkward period of development, this still is quite pleasurable with a slice of pizza.
The nose is reticent - it's here where the wine really betrays it's youth, with hints of black & red fruits. The red fruit becomes more prominent on the palate, with good acidity. This is a top notch example of a Chianti from a strong vintage.
Very floral and spicy expression of sangiovese, roses and Mexican chocolate on a ripe cranberry bing cherry base. Beautiful at PnP but especially with extended slow ox on day 2 after a night on argon.

88 now but rating for 5+ years. Nose muted, even after one hour decant. Aeration unlocked vivid bouquet of cherry, blackberry. Nice acidity. Lovely balance - no heat but real depth on a mid weight frame. But lacking expressiveness right now and feeling locked in. Hold.

Oak nose with light vanilla and baking spice. Very tight wine with red cherry, lots of acidty and super-long, lean tannins that expand onto a finish of cranberry, spice, roses, and earth. This needs more time. 90+ points.

This is very young. I would recommend holding for a least another two year. With air there is some cherry and red fruit. Very tannic with bright acidity. this should evolve very nicely in the next five years.

This is still quite young and requires a lot of air. The one hour given today is not enough. Nose is very expressive, with dense, dark cherries. The mouth leaves quite some tannins and a bit of tension. Still not ready, or not ready yet. Fruit is clear, straightforward sangiovese. Definitively a good wine, but quite early. Perhaps a second day brings more solace. In the meanwhile, don't rush to drink this.

Lovely tannins that you want to chew a bit...leather and earthy tones...long legs beautiful burgundy color but a little lighter that Sangiovese gives you....smooth. Worth an under <$60 (or <$50 of you can find it). I would buy a half case if I could.

Dark color, herbal slight funk nose, pure and intense flavor, great fruit, lots of tannin which should smooth over time but the wine is great today, complexity, great structure and long finish, I am a bit prejudiced since I tasted this at the winery where I was very impressed with the wine, drank with Tuscan steak (T-bone with rosemary), will drink again.

Medium to deep cool ruby, some variation at the edge. Notes of blackberry minerals tea leaves orange rind. Med body, med+ acid, fine grained tannins well integrated. redder fruit on palate, quite bright and fresh, tart cranberry, with some sweet tobacco on the finish. Ready to drink, and probably best with food

This is a Sangiovese for Cabernet Sauvignon drinkers; deep and dark with black cherry, black currant, liquid stones, anise, and earth. The wine is highly structured, but fairly unforgiving and closed at this point. This needs at least another 5-10 years in the bottle before being revisited.

A very enjoyable Sangiovese wine that is still painfully young. This needs to rest horizontal for 5-7 years to let the secondary notes fully blossom.
Quite powerful and expressive for a Sangiovese; the nose gives up dark cherry, bonfire smoke, ash, and menthol at this formative stage. Somewhat dark in color on pour. Good definition of red fruit on the palate, but this really needs more years to coax out some of the underlying elements. Structured and grippy tannin; this is best paired with food for maximum enjoyment.
I think those that wait will be rewarded!

At Zachys DC Tasting. Stunningly good and best wine tasted. Has the sour cherry but a lot of darker fruited notes as well. Amazing mouthfeel and a lingering brilliant finish. Bested a 2013 di Neri Tenuta Nouva by a decent margin imho. 95+

This is my first experience with this wine; it seems to have quite a bit of potential, but for me right now this needs 8-10 years; the color is on the darker side for a sangiovese and the nose is tight. With really aggressive swirling, I can coax out some very ripe red berry fruits, lots of spice, sage, mint, and a hint of floral notes and earth/tobacco. The palate is certainly big and structured with taut acidity, but right now the tannins dominate and seem to shorten and shut the wine off. It definitely seems to have more than enough stuffing to overcome the tannins and evolve into a fabulous wine, but I probably won't try another one for a minimum of 5 years.

Dried cherries, thyme and sage. A bit edgy in the finish. Tannins not over the top. Long lingering finish. Likely to benefit from 3 to 5 years of cellaring, perhaps more.

Deep, dark reddish-purple, almost opaque in color. Full, forward & aromatic nose of ripe fruit aromas of dark cherries, blackberries & plums with overtones of floral notes of roses & earthy/dusty, cocoa, coffee grounds, dried herbs, some mint & anise, olives, minerals & spices notes of cinnamon & cloves with some vanilla/toasty oak notes in the background. Full bodied with a very good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, ripe fruit flavors of sour cherries, blackberries & dark plums with cocoa, coffee, spices, herbs, minerals & a hint of vanilla/toasty oak. Long lingering finish. Drinks quite well at present with decanting & extended airing. An intense wine which needs much more time to develop fully & would rate even higher over time.
