Saturday, April 23, 2022 - Sangiovese study (Chicago, IL): Killer nose, and readily my favourite of the flight. Sweet, perfumed red fruit, with a slight herbal element as well, with an intensity that the 2017 just doesn't match at all. A bit cooler in stature than the ripe and flashy 2009, this is obviously very young, and in that stern tannic structure on the palate, this mirrors the 2017 quite a bit. But there's an added level of complexity and aromaticity to this wine that works brilliantly here. One for the ages, so they say.
