Monday, May 15, 2023 - After buying into a case of the ‘19, of which is in a league of its own for this label, I went for the next-oldest vintage: that being the ‘17. 73% Cabernet Sauvignon and 27% Merlot on this vintage - 60% new oak. Opened up very sharp, needed about 2-3 hours before I even considered a true pour. Once it oxidized for a bit, it started to show some life, plenty of fruit - blending black and red fruits seamlessly - notes of plum, blackberry, and boysenberry. There’s kicks of oak, mineral, and vanilla, with a tremendous amount of spice, making this unique enough to justify its price point. Excited to dive into the highly rated/talked about ‘19 in the coming year(s), I can see why Dufort is starting to pick up steam.
