Friday, August 14, 2020 - Continuing my train of experimentation with White Bordeaux. I've enjoyed red Chateau Larrivet Haut-Brion before, so when I saw their white wine on the shelf I was intrigued and thought I'd give it a try.

Medium-yellow in color. This wine is pretty aromatic, and I can smell it from my chest! The nose gives you...mango! Indeed, it's rich with mango and is accompanied by hints of honey and pineapple (strangely the makes me feel like I'm in the Philippines again). Upon sipping one is met with an acidic wine whose full body and high alcohol give it a voluptuous mouthfeel that sits heavily on the tongue. As for the flavor I'm getting even more mango, pineapple and honey along with some passion fruit and underlying mineral tones. The finish is long and off-dry with a slight lingering sweetness that rests with mango that is gradually replaced by lemon notes. The retronasal smell is dominated by the passion fruit, interestingly, which was entirely absent in the initial nose. Intriguing!

This is a delight to drink! It's much more fruit-forward than the Château Lynch-Bages Blanc de Lynch-Bages and lends itself to a more "mango-ey" experience. It's different, for sure, but still very good! This is perfect for the August heat here in Virginia.

And of course, keeping with tradition, I provide the wife's response: "It tastes like somebody added sugar to cough syrup in an attempt to get their kids to take it." Hmm. Sounds delicious!
