Tuesday, September 28, 2021 - From magnum. A non-wine collector friend was gifted this bottle and decided to open it on a special occasion because he has no desire to wait 20 years. I don't drink a lot of young Bordeaux (and definitely not first growths) on release, so I didn't know whether it would be approachable. Though it will no doubt gain loads of complexity in 20 years, I was surprised at how supple and friendly this wine was on PnP. Great balance of dark fruit, earth tobacco and other flavors. The tannins are extremely well polished, making me surprised to read Leve's note that this wine had a record amount of tannin in 2017. No hard edges, no harshness anywhere. This wine was simply delicious. Glad to have experienced it.
