Saturday, November 16, 2019 - Opened 5h prior. Farmyard and spice on the nose. Recessed fruit on the palate with some spice at first (this didn't last for long), soft leathery tannin, farmyard, and a 'flat' end. More cherry fruit emerged on the late palate as it opened in the glass. Later glasses showed more fruit with hints of blackberry and it perked up a lot with a rare steak when the tannins were appropriate and the wine was a good partner. A reminder that wine from France is produced to drink with food.
This was not a great year and the wine is now in decline but this was the last of a dozen bought en primeur and we have had a good deal of pleasure from it. 86 on its own and 88 with food - 87 on average.
