Thursday, April 27, 2023 - Champagne Bookclub (served blind)--Ramon (Maison Cafe in Dana Point, CA): Served blind. Disgorged February 2019, from old vine Pinot Blanc. 62 grams of dosage, which as bizarrely high as this may sound, the wine does not exhibit sweetness that would normally turn me off as I dislike sweet wines. Viet remarked that the wine showed a 'hay' quality, with my sense that was a green banana aroma. The flavor of this is squarely in a lime extract/concentrate that is not quite syrupy but the density is there. Fascinating to drink the wine, especially blind without the dosage # and just experience it without that bias. And also, a reminder to me that I have lost track of Aurelien Gerbais' wines and it is time to hunt down some of the range (which now have the new front labels) and see how the wines are showing.
